September is the best month at Dyers Bay

September is the best month at Dyers Bay. Who agrees? Bugs are gone. Its still warm outside. Crowds of visitors are gone. Traffic is scarce…

At the Annual General Meeting of the Dyers Bay Association meeting, ….

…. we elected new people to the executive. Welcome new Secretary Lucy Weston (thanks to Liz Schmitt Matzen for her years in that role). Welcome Graeme Weston as a Director (Yes. He and Lucy are partners). Ron Godkin stepped up to audit the 2017 books. See the Association Executive LINK for the full list. VICE-PRESIDENT still needed!

…. we launched a contest for kids to give us their design ideas for road safety signs. Click to see the Sign Design Poster for details. Encourage your children, grandchildren and school classes to give us their most attention-getting ideas.

….we sadly had to cancel the stone-skipping contest that evening due to high waves, but we promise to hold it next year. A few residents tried their hand anyway. Rob Salisbury holds the current record. One skip.

ENJOY SEPTEMBER!

Well that was fun

To put on a potluck, you need a few ingredients.

  1. Friendly people ready for a good time
  2. Great food
  3. A place to gather, eat, drink and most of all, share and laugh.

As if by magic, it all came together. The Dyers Bay Association clubhouse was full, the food was great and the fellowship flowed long past the last bite.

New friends were met. Old friends shared life. And ideas to enhance our community were hatched.

A video of the Canada Day fireworks on the Dyers Bay dock was unveiled, courtesy videographer extraordinaire Tim Wadleigh. Thanks Tim. Connect to the internet, download the file at this link and crank up the sound! Dyers Bay Canada Day 150th Fireworks

Next community event? Labour Day weekend. Check EVENTS on the www.dyersbay.ca website and watch your email for news.

High Summer has arrived at Dyers Bay

With warm breezes, sunshine and warm water (that’s a Dyers Bay term meaning “the ice is off the dock”), lots of people and visitors are here. Your Association will help us celebrate our great community with the annual POT LUCK Supper on Saturday, August 6 at 6PM. A true potluck, members of all ages just show up with a dish of something that you want to share, plates, glasses, cutlery, bring-your-own-beverage and a smile. See the EVENTS calendar for a few more details at http://www.dyersbay.ca/happening/2017/08/pot-luck-community-dinner/.

The August General Meeting is at 4PM that same day. We guarantee that it will be crisp, focussed and over by 5PM.

Countries Have Birthdays Too

JUNE 1 Notes from Dyers Bay Association

After a good long weekend in May, your Association has a long TO-DO List and a growing list of activities planned to make your summer at Dyers Bay enjoyable.

Sunday JUNE 4– At noon, up by the parking lot, greet the Bruce Trail 50th Anniversary Baton  as it is carried from Niagara Falls to Tobermory. Be part of the relay chain! Or join one or both of the two short hikes!  See Greet the Bruce Trail Baton for details

Saturday July 1– A full day celebrating Canada’s 150th Birthday, starting with the CANADA DAY PARADE at noon, lead by Parade Marshall Ron Baker (FooFoo the Not-So-Scary Clown?), with a  CONTEST for best costumes in various categories. Following the parade, we sing the Canadian and USA national anthems, enjoy the BOOK  and BAKE SALE, stuff our faces at the FAMILY FEAST,  then at 4PM, participate at the General Meeting, including Mayor Milt McIvor providing Municipality highlights and taking questions. A busy day is capped off at 9:30 with our biggest-ever FIREWORKS display off the dock. Details at Dyers Bay Association Events.

Spring Newsletter Available

Until we had a website, we relied on paper, postal services and walking the community to get out the call each Spring to join up and participate. We continue that tradition, and this year, the Spring newsletter has been expertly crafted courtesy of Laurie Cochrane,  Dyers Bay resident and a Director of the Association. In her “real life”, she is a designer, so we all benefit from her skill in creating this great piece of communication. If you need a designer, here is a shameless plug to contact her at lcochranedesign@gmail.com

Even if you have found all the information you need on the new Association website, check out this newsletter. Spring 2017 Newsletter. Attach it to an email for FRIENDS AND FAMILY.  If you need a Membership Form to pay by e-transfer, there is a standalone, fillable one on the website under membership

Thanks Laurie!

Welcome Back

Just like the geese headed north over the Bay, Dyers Bay residents are flocking back. We were saddened when one of our “geese”, recent Association President Ed Wilson, did not make the trip back to his favourite place. Keep flying across the sky Ed. We will miss you.

We hope you like the beginnings of your new Association website, www.dyersbay.ca. Take a few minutes to look around the site and let me (jimwadleigh@rogers.com) know what you would like to see. Your Association executive thought this would be a handy way to keep everybody in and around Dyers Bay connected, informed and working together to build our great community. We will soon add online membership signup, more Association news, archives, history and useful resources. That great picture of the geese and others on the site are courtesy of Dyers Bay resident Devon Crowell devoncphotography.com. Thanks Devon.

We hope to see a good crowd for the Welcome Back Social (Saturday, May 20, 7PM at the Clubhouse). Sign up or renew your membership, make your own ice cream sundae, meet new friends and old. Free for members and of course, the whole family is welcome.

Like you, I am looking forward to another summer of Dyers Bay sunny days, crystal clear water and community.
Jim Wadleigh (Canadian)
President, Dyers Bay Association
